Great alpinists: Marco Siffredi

Marco Siffredi

I met Marco when he was 16. He could have been my son but I like to think of myself as a big brother of some kind, even though he real brother died when he was 3.

Reinhold Messner said that Marco did the best Everest ascent of all times, followed by the first ever descent by snowboard of Everest in 2001. On year later, he died on the same mountain, attempting the descent via the Horbein corridor.

I have followed Marco since the start of his career, trying to transmit as much of my experience as possible both as someone familiar with the Himalaya and as a photographer.

We did numerous expeditions together and, after him, I decided that following extreme experiences was not for me anymore.

A stylish ride by Marco for a very graphical picture.

Caught in mid-air during a jump. Marco was a true free rider.

Riding in Chamonix

Marco and I decided that this spot would be perfect for a picture. After that, I just had to stand by and press the button.

The Angel

Marco's nickname was "l'Ange Blond". Quite apt if you are asking me.

  • Dorje Lakpa, Nepal

Nepal

Climbing on the Dorje Lakpa (6966 m). To take that kind of pictures, I had to train as hard as the others.
